Paradise Lagoons Val & Tom Acton MBE Memorial Complex
Rockhampton, Queensland

The purpose designed and constructed Paradise Val & Tom Acton MBE Memorial Complex was officially opened on Friday 2 May, 2003 by the Hon. John Anderson MP, Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and Ed McCormack President National Campdraft Association. During speeches, Graeme and Evan Acton outlined their decision to name the magnificent complex in honour of their parents, the late Val and Tom Acton MBE, both of whom shared a passion for horse sports of all disciplines.

The complex was designed and constructed specifically for the Australian developed sport of campdrafting. It features an all-weather arena, first class cattle yards and laneways with remote controlled gateways.

A modern spectator complex, Paradise Lagoons includes a cafeteria and full bar features as well as undercover seating that flows out to tiered spectator areas, complete with a sandpit for children. Portable grandstands push the seating capacity to over 1,000, ensuring all spectators capture an uninterrupted bird’s-eye view of the camp and arena in comfortable surroundings.

Camping areas are provided for up to 800 competitors and families, each site with power, water, and ample space for gooseneck and/or other vehicles, with hot showers and toilets centrally located.

In 2005, a second campdraft arena and a cutting arena have been added to the complex, allowing the complex to easily accommodate the 2005 extended program of eight events. To support the new developments, additional areas and facilities for spectators, scorers, judges and announcers have been installed.
